Six categories
Six categories (A, B, C, D, E and F), defined by the extent of memorisation in Ajza and by maximum age. Categories C, D and E each have two subcategories (for example, C1 and C2), each with its own classification. Categories A and B are only for contestants of Portuguese nationality.

Vocabulary assessment (Far' al-Nāshi'ah)
In this category, a vocabulary assessment on some words from Juz 30 (Far' al-Nāshi'ah) is mandatory. It has its own classification and prizes, separate from the memorisation classification, which it does not affect. The organisers provide the questions and the answers for prior study, together with the assessment criteria.

Vocabulary assessment (Far' al-Nāshi'ah)
In this category, a vocabulary assessment on some words from Surah Al-Kahf (Far' al-Nāshi'ah) is mandatory. It has its own classification and prizes, separate from the memorisation classification, which it does not affect. The organisers provide the questions and the answers for prior study, together with the assessment criteria.

Parts (Juz) to present
In categories C, D and E, each subcategory has fixed parts: for example, C1 is Juz 1 to Juz 5 and C2 is Juz 26 to Juz 30. Category F is the complete Qur'an. In categories A and B, the participant chooses the parts when pre-registering.
How age is counted
The maximum age is counted on 29 March 2027.
Each participant may register in one category only. When the age allows more than one, the participant chooses.
Each category has a maximum number of candidates and the organisers may cancel categories.
Categories A and B: national contestants
Categories A and B are for national contestants only, that is, contestants of Portuguese nationality. On the pre-registration form, these categories can only be chosen when the nationality given is Portuguese.
Preliminary assessment
Competitors in category F (complete Qur'an), and competitors of Portuguese nationality, may have to take a preliminary assessment by WhatsApp or Zoom. Confirmation of the registration depends on their performance.
Accommodation
In category F (complete Qur'an), the organisers provide accommodation during the days of the competition (25 to 28 March 2027) and, if the competitor is under 18, also for one accompanying adult. Outside this period, accommodation is paid by the competitor, as are travel, food, transport and other costs. In the other categories, travel, accommodation, transport, food and other costs are at the competitor's expense.
